If the resident resides out of the UAE for more than six months...

• Resident Permit becomes invalid if the Resident resides out of the UAE for more than Six months.

• Period is calculated as 180 days from the date of departure.

• In such cases two options are applicable. 

1. Cancel the existing visa and apply for new visa to enter UAE again.

2. Pay Dh100extra for each month after 6 months, and obtain an Entry Permit from Immigration Department for re-entry. Till completion of seven months re-entry permit fee isDh230. Then 100 will increase for every month. 

• Residence Visa of the person who wants to re-enter must be valid.

For Family: Submit an Arabic letter to Immigration Department requesting re-entry permit.

Attachments: Passport copy of family member(s) and Sponsor.

For Employee: Submit a letter in Company Letter Head to Immigration Department requesting re-entry permission.

Attachments: Passport copy of Employee, Trade License Copy, Immigration Card Copy & PRO Card Copy. Employee's re-entry permit after six months depends on case to case.

Note: The Entry Permit is valid for 15 days from the date of issue. If the Resident couldn't enter within 15 days, new fees to be paid to get another Entry permit.

Q: I used to work as a mechanical engineer in a construction company here for four years. My UAE visa is valid till December 2012. I took my annual leave in August 2011 and couldn’t return as I had an accident. I have settled all my dues through my friends. My company has not yet sent me a release. How may I cancel my current visa and can approach another company in the UAE for employment?

A: You have to check whether your current visa has been cancelled or not. If your current visa is not yet cancelled by your employer, you can come back to the UAE on the same visa provided your current employer get approval from the relevant immigration as you have overstayed outside the UAE. After your arrival, you have to give your resignation in accordance with the terms of your employment contract. However, if your visa has been cancelled you can come on a new visa.

Q: My brother-in-law is holding a free zone visa, which will expire soon. He is currently in India and has undergone a surgery for knee replacement due to which he cannot travel back to Dubai before the expiry date. Is there a way where medical papers can be submitted to the immigration authorities to allow him to enter Dubai later?

A: One of the main conditions for renewing the visa is the presence in the country. Hence, if your brother-in-law is not able to come before the expiry of the visa then he can apply for a new visa and submit the old one with the medical reports that proves that he was prevented from entering the country due to his medical condition (KT).
